Mindset Matters

Hi there!!! So, this week I did my first Monday Mindset and Motivation Sessions. I just LOVED it!!! It’s something I have been wanting to do for a while and what with Covid getting in the way, I wasn’t sure when I was going to be able to get started. I then decided that if I ran the sessions online, I could not only get going, but I could help more people! Last night I spoke with Rider’s from all over the UK!

So, let me tell you a little bit about the sessions. They can be about anything you want, goal setting, rider confidence, competition nerves etc. We talk through the challenges you are facing and we find way to help you use your mindset in a more positive way. It was lovely to see people have some lightbulb moments last night and I’m really excited to be working with these great people again.

Mindset is a huge part of not only riding, but our lives. How we choose to approach our day really sets the theme! Personally I like to start the day with lots of positivity and a bit of time to myself!! I like to listen to mindset, inspirational and performance podcasts on my way to the yard and sometime even while I’m turning the horse out and mucking out. I also like to get some exercise first thing in the morning as I find this makes me feel better mentally and physically, even if it’s just a walk with the dog, or a quick run.

We now know that riding is 80% mindset and 20% technical, so as riders we should be spending time working on our mindset. I have spoken to a lot of riders who think that mindset work is only for elite equine athletes, this couldn’t be further from the truth!! Mindset work if for all rider, at all levels. With the right help, you can conquer those nerves about cantering, or you can stop your mind going blank as soon as the bell rings in the dressage arena. We’ve all been there at some point, with something, and frankly, anyone who says that haven’t either hasn’t been around horses long enough, or isn’t being truthful! We are only human at the end of the day.

The most important thing to remember is to use someone who is adequately trained to help you. This is why, as soon as I saw the amazing Coaches course from Centre 10, I knew the course would be a fantastic development opportunity to build on my NLP Master Practioner qualification.

For those that don’t know, Centre 10 is run by industry leading psychologists Charlie Unwin and Sarah Huntley (both have experience of not only Olympic and professional sport, but also elite military forces and global businesses), they have created training for coaches that embeds the fundamentals of performance psychology into everyday training. Centre 10 also run short course for Riders. I have learned so much from training with these amazing people, and I am so excited about helping riders of all levels reach their goals and reach their potential.

I mentioned above that I liked to listen to podcasts to start my day, this is just a few of the ones I like to listen to and have found very interesting and inspirational:

  • Champion Minded Podcast with Allistair McCaw

  • High Performance Mindset with Dr Cindra Kamphoff

  • The High Performance Podcast with Jake Humphrey and Prof. Damian Hughes

  • The Efficient Coach with Marcus Walfridson

I will be doing a lot more with Mindset Training with my new business “The Dressage Coach”. This is a purely online training platform that will offer remote coaching, both ridden and mindset. The website will be launching this week so make sure to check it out at and on Facebook and Instagram. We have some exciting offers coming up and we will be searching for sponsored riders and brand ambassadors.

So, if you’d like to join us next week for Monday Mindset and Motivation, we still have a couple of spaces left, visit Facebook or my website to book.

See you soon!
